Drag ropes are ornamental cords that hang beneath a marching drum. These cords are believed to have originated from the excess rope left over when older rope tension drums were tied up. The excess rope would be plaited and stored around the bottom edge of the drum during play, and then used as carrying straps by the drummer when the drum was not in use, worn on the back like a rucksack. Today, the drag ropes serve as decorative enhancements for modern marching drums.
Crafted from high-quality white cotton cord/rope, our drag ropes measure 44" in length. The drag rope is made up of 11" of rope with a knot, followed by 22" of drummer's plait, and another 11" of rope with a knot.
